I was just reading this blog that I just stumbled up. Tom and I were just talking about the kitties this morning so the post about their beloved doggy really touched me.
They truly were two of the most wonderful cats I have ever known. They were so good together too. They just seemed so much like brother and sister. They were pretty much the same age and weight but came from different states at different times. They were both rescued from being put down when I worked at the animal hospital. Jackson, formerly named Calhoun, only had minutes to spare. I saw his cute face through the carrier and was of course curious why he was there. His "owner" said he wasn't grooming himself so she thought his time was up. The poor cat was so neglected he had lost his mind. After he settled in with us he was such a wonderful friend. He would follow Lilly around all the time, there is barely a photo where he is not in it.
Squeaky and Jackson were both at least 14 years old when we adopted them, about 6 months apart. Even though we only had them a few short years, and there were some medical complication$ along the way, they were two of the best cats I have ever owned. I have owned several cats. I have 9 cats tattooed on my body, the last 3 cats still haven't made it there yet.
I would highly recommend adopting an older cat. They seemed to just know and appreciate us so much more.
I miss you Squeaky(Little Bird), Jackson(Mister), Tilly(Silly Tilly Willy), Max(Maxy Von Staxi), Nymphadora(Big Whitey), Laurel(Laureli), Chrissy(Chrispy) and Fergus(Ferg the Werg). You were all so wonderful and I love and miss you all.
What a great thing for you to do - adopting an older cat is something most people would not do! They look like they were so sweet together.
